Canadian advisor communications · Original IAM analysis
Before the October 28 decision, prepare a client explanation—not a prediction

Verified calendar fact
The Bank of Canada has scheduled its next policy-rate announcement and Monetary Policy Report for Wednesday, October 28, 2026, at 9:45 a.m. Eastern Time (6:45 a.m. Pacific). As of this October 27 preparation, the scheduled announcement is still ahead. This draft makes no claim about the decision, a new policy-rate level or the contents of the forthcoming report.
IAM analysis: prepare the structure now, fill in the facts later
An advice practice can prepare useful communication before a major release without presenting a forecast as an outcome. Build a short explanation with separate spaces for the published decision, the Bank's reasoning and questions clients might want to discuss. Keep those spaces visibly incomplete until someone has reviewed the actual release.
The first paragraph after publication should explain what the Bank announced and when. A second can describe the relevant outlook, labelled as the Bank's projection rather than an established future result. The practice's own interpretation belongs in a separate section with a named reviewer. This division makes the message easier to check and gives readers a clear way to distinguish source facts from commentary.
Avoid promises about the reader's next payment
A policy announcement should not become a blanket statement that every borrowing cost, deposit rate or investment will move by the same amount. If a communication discusses a particular product, its current terms and applicable institution's information need separate verification. A broad newsletter cannot replace a review of someone's agreement, circumstances or advice needs.
Write the contact route before the headline
Decide where a reader with a question should go. Is the message offering a general educational conversation, an appointment with an appropriately qualified adviser or a product-specific follow-up? The call to action should match the service the business actually provides. Do not turn an uncertain event into artificial urgency or imply that requesting a meeting guarantees a beneficial outcome.
Keep a small release checklist
Record the source URL and publication time. Check every number against the original, including units and comparison periods. Remove draft placeholders before approval. Preview the message on a phone, test its contact link and retain the final reviewed version. If the interpretation changes after the press conference, date the correction instead of silently presenting the revision as the original message.
Those are communications practices proposed by IAM, not a regulatory compliance checklist or evidence of investment expertise. The aim is a readable, traceable explanation that a qualified practice can review for its own audience.
